Robin Wright on Wonder Woman In Best Shape of Life at 50

Robin Wright Reflects on ‘Wonder Woman’ and Being in Peak Shape at 50

In a recent virtual interview with an international outlet, Robin Wright looked back fondly on her role as General Antiope, the fierce Amazonian mentor to Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince in DC Comics’ Wonder Woman (2017). Remarkably, Wright filmed the blockbuster the same year she turned 50—and says she was in the “best shape” of her life.

Wright revealed the physical intensity of the production, saying it had as much emotional impact on the cast as it did on audiences. “We all trained weeks before we started shooting, every day of the week. We went to weight training, and the diet was insane,” she shared.

The veteran actor added, “We had to ingest like 3,500 calories of food a day, so you’re constantly doing smoothies in between your three meals. We had martial arts training and horse training—being able to ride a horse and pull a bow and arrow. It was full on.”

Reflecting on her fitness at the time, Wright said, “I was in the best shape of my life, and I turned 50 on that movie. I thought, god—I’ll never be in that kind of shape again. It was amazing.”

Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins and led by Gadot, also starred Chris Pine, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya, among others. The film was praised for its visuals, performances, and action sequences, and while the climax received some criticism, it went on to become one of the year’s biggest box office successes.
