NATO troops fighting in Ukraine might lead to warfare, the Kremlin fears

The US-led NATO military alliance and Russia would inevitably clash if European countries of the alliance committed troops to fight in Ukraine, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

The Russian-Western relationship is at its lowest point since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, which was brought on by the war in Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin has already expressed concerns about the potential consequences of a direct conflict between Russia and NATO.

On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron gave the green light for European countries to send soldiers to Ukraine, although he stressed that there was not yet agreement on this.

When asked about Macron’s comments, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “The very fact of discussing the possibility of sending certain contingents to Ukraine from NATO countries is a very important new element.”

When reporters questioned Peskov on the dangers of NATO allies sending soldiers to fight in Ukraine, he responded as follows:

“In that case, we would need to talk not about the probability, but about the inevitability (of a direct conflict).”

According to Peskov, the West ought to consider whether such a situation serves the interests of their nations and peoples.

As the West struggles to contain a resurgent Russia 32 years after the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991, the mere mention of a clash between Russia and NATO—a Cold War nightmare for both leaders and populace—indicates the dangers of escalation.

The two countries with the biggest nuclear weaponry in the world are the US and Russia, who together form NATO. President Joe Biden has issued a warning that a confrontation between NATO and Russia might start World War Three.

Western leaders pledged to support Ukraine in defeating Russian forces on the battlefield and driving away Russian forces following the Russian invasion in 2022.

However, that hasn’t occurred.

The US’s backing for Ukraine is mired in domestic political disputes, and Russia has been advancing farther into Ukrainian territory since Ukraine’s counteroffensive in 2023 failed to breach deeply entrenched Russian defenses.

Macron stated that nothing should be left out as the West searched for a plan to oppose Russia, which occupies less than 20% of the area recognized as Ukraine.

“There should be nothing left out. “We’ll exert every effort to prevent Russia from winning,” stated Macron.

Reuters was informed by a White House official that neither the US nor NATO intended to send soldiers to engage in combat in Ukraine.

Putin presents America and its allies as a collapsing empire out to exterminate Russia and seize its natural riches. Putin’s Russia is portrayed by the West as an enemy, and Putin himself as a killer and dictator.

Although Biden referred to Putin as a “crazy SOB” earlier this month and US officials revealed that Russia is preparing to launch a nuclear weapon into space, the US has refuted Russian accusations that it seeks to destroy Russia.
