Putin orders the Middle East to retreat from a potentially devastating conflict
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, cautioned that any action that would spark a new conflict would have disastrous effects for the Middle East and encouraged all parties involved to desist from it on Tuesday, according to the Kremlin.
President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran was contacted by Putin to discuss what the Kremlin referred to as “retaliatory measures taken by Iran.” Since the Islamic Republic sent soldiers into Ukraine in 2022, Putin and the country have developed considerably tighter connections.
In response to an Israeli attack on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that claimed the lives of seven officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two senior commanders, Iran launched drones and missiles toward Israel late on Saturday.
In his first remarks on Iran’s strike, Putin stated that the unresolved dispute between Israel and the Palestinians was the main reason for the current instability in the Middle East.

Russia, which has developed close relations with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, has frequently chastised the West for failing to recognize the necessity of an independent Palestinian state within 1967 boundaries.
Regarding the talk with Raisi, the Kremlin claimed, “Both sides stated that the unresolved Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the root cause of the current events in the Middle East.”
In this sense, the principled stances of Iran and Russia in support of an instant ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ameliorating the dire humanitarian situation, and establishing the framework for a diplomatic and political resolution of the conflict were validated.
Putin thanked Raisi and other Muslims on the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, after visiting Khamenei in 2022.
