Russia-Ukraine Strikes Kill One, Wound Dozens as Ceasefire Push Continues
KYIV – A new wave of aerial attacks between Russia and Ukraine has left at least one person dead and several others injured, officials said, as international efforts to broker a ceasefire press on.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russian forces launched 574 drones and 40 missiles in the overnight assault. Air defense units intercepted 546 drones and 31 missiles, but some still hit residential areas.
In the western city of Lviv, regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed one death and two injuries from the strikes. “Dozens of residential buildings were damaged,” he said on Telegram.
Nearby, in Mukachevo, Russian fire wounded 12 people, according to the city council. Five remain in local hospitals, while one was transferred to a regional facility.
In Lutsk, Mayor Igor Polishchuk said drones and missiles also targeted the city, though no casualties were reported.
Moscow’s defence ministry, meanwhile, claimed its forces destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones across several regions, without mentioning casualties or damage.
The escalation comes as US President Donald Trump intensifies his diplomatic push to end the war, now entering its third year. Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska earlier this month and later hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alongside European leaders in Washington for talks.
