Saif Slams PML-N Threatens Resignation
Barrister Saif Slams PML-N for Politicising Swat Tragedy, Defends KP Government Response
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Advisor Barrister Saif strongly criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Friday for using the recent Swat tragedy as a political weapon, accusing them of exploiting natural disasters to attack Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led regions.
Reacting to comments made by Federal Minister Atta Tarar linking the Swat incident to corruption, Barrister Saif accused PML-N of a pattern of politicising national tragedies for political gain.
“PML-N has made it a habit to turn disasters into tools of petty politics,” Saif stated. He lauded KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for showing maturity and statesmanship by offering assistance to Punjab during the recent rain emergencies, in contrast to what he called the “petty political behavior” of federal ministers.
Barrister Saif further questioned Tarar’s double standards, asking whether the minister could justify the frequent urban flooding and infrastructure collapse seen in Punjab and Islamabad after even brief rainfall.
“Lahore and Islamabad turn into lakes after a few hours of rain. The so-called development in Punjab has drowned along with the floodwaters,” Saif remarked. “Even the promise of making Lahore the Paris of the East has been washed away.”
The remarks come amid mounting criticism of the KP government following the Swat incident. Saif, however, maintained that engaging in political point-scoring during a national tragedy is both “irresponsible and insensitive.”
Internal PTI Rift Over Senate Tickets
Separately, Barrister Saif has also been at the center of an internal PTI rift regarding the allocation of Senate tickets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The elections are scheduled to take place on July 21.
According to party sources, Barrister Saif threatened to resign from his post after facing resistance in announcing PTI’s Senate candidates. He was reportedly acting on instructions from the PTI founder, who directed the nomination of six candidates during a recent meeting at Adiala Jail.
However, sources claim that CM Gandapur and Aleema Khanum urged Saif to delay the announcement for further consultation. In response, Saif reportedly said, “I will resign from my position before betraying the party founder’s trust.”
