Sajikot Flood Rescue Children Saved Death Toll Rises
Local Communities and Authorities Rescue Children Amid Pakistan’s Deadly Floods
Sajikot, Pakistan – In a remarkable display of community spirit, residents in Sajikot successfully rescued school children trapped by rising floodwaters. At Topla School in the Galiyat region, hundreds of female students were stranded when floodwaters entered the school premises, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
The district administration, with the support of Rescue 1122 volunteers, continues to carry out extensive relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), torrential rains and flash floods have claimed at least 657 lives across Pakistan since June 26. Among the deceased, 392 were men, 171 were children, and 94 were women. Additionally, 929 people have been injured, including 437 men, 256 children, and 236 women.
The NDMA emphasized that these casualties resulted from monsoon rains, flash floods, and related hazards, and confirmed ongoing coordination with provincial authorities to intensify relief and rescue efforts in the hardest-hit regions.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hit Hardest
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has borne the brunt of the disaster, reporting 390 deaths, including 288 men, 59 children, and 43 women. The province also recorded 245 injuries, with 161 men, 45 children, and 39 women affected.
The NDMA, under directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, continues to support KP’s government and Provincial Disaster Management Authority in the flood relief operations. Relief supplies, including tents, blankets, 7KVA generators, de-watering pumps, ration bags, and medicines, have been dispatched by the NDMA, Armed Forces, and various welfare organizations. On Monday, a consignment reached Buner to aid the most affected communities.
The situation remains critical, with authorities urging residents to remain vigilant as heavy rains and flooding continue to threaten vulnerable areas.
