Saudi Arabia Toughens Traffic Laws with Jail Deportation Penalties
Saudi Arabia Approves Stricter Penalties for Serious Traffic Offenses
Riyadh — Saudi Arabia’s cabinet has approved new amendments to traffic laws, introducing tougher penalties for serious violations. The decision was taken unanimously during a recent cabinet session, according to Akhbar 24.
Under the new rules, offenders of major traffic violations could face imprisonment of up to one year. For expatriates, penalties may include deportation, blacklisting, and a permanent ban on re-entry into the Kingdom if a court rules their actions endangered public safety.
The cabinet has authorized the Ministry of Interior to enforce these measures, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the Public Prosecution. These bodies will also draft detailed regulations to ensure smooth implementation.
The amendments further specify stricter consequences for repeat violations. A second offense within the same year will result in double fines, while a third offense will be referred to court, where penalties will be determined based on the severity of the case.
