Another Senate resolution asking for a postponement of the elections was filed

Senate resolution asking for a postponement of the elections

A second resolution asking for a postponement of the February 8 general elections owing to “security challenges” was filed with the Senate on Friday.

Senator Hidayatullah of the Independent Parliamentary Group has presented the resolution to the Senate Secretariat.

According to the resolution, this “House expresses deep concern over the continuous increase in the targeting of election candidates” with regard to the actions taken to comply with the constitutional responsibility to hold general elections across the nation.

It also drew attention to recent acts of terrorism and violence that have occurred all around the nation, including armed assaults in North Waziristan, Bajaur, Swabi, and Turbat.

As a troubling aspect of the current security difficulties, the resolution stated that these occurrences have spread fear and insecurity across the nation, with candidates receiving threatening pamphlets at their homes and campaign offices.

The resolution’s wording states that the Upper House acknowledged that conducting general elections is required by the Constitution, which also places equal importance on ensuring free and fair elections as well as the safety and unimpeded participation of all interested parties.

The resolution went on to say that the people’s fundamental right to security of life and property is upheld by the Constitution, which places a strong focus on securing free elections.

Senator Hidayatullah stated that Article (9) of the Constitution emphasizes the significance of this fundamental right, which the state must provide in all situations, and that the state’s main duty is to safeguard the lives and property of the people.

Thus, he said, the Upper House begs the Pakistani Supreme Court and Election Commission to postpone the elections.

The resolution went on to say that the Upper House urges the government to take proactive steps to guarantee fairness for all political parties and candidates during the adjournment period, all the while attending to security issues.
