Shehbaz Sharif Pushes for Cashless Pakistan
On Thursday in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a meeting about making Pakistan a cashless and digital economy.
He said it’s very important now to make payments easier for people and businesses. He also said more people need to learn about using digital systems.
Shehbaz Sharif Wants to Make Pakistan More Digital
He told the committees working on the cashless economy to work together with everyone involved and give useful and practical ideas.
The meeting shared that the State Bank of Pakistan is working on a plan to help traders use digital payments more easily.
A special plan will also be launched to help small businesses start using digital payments.
The government wants to:
Increase digital payment app users from 95 million to 120 million
Increase the total digital payments from 7.5 billion rupees to 12 billion rupees
But Shehbaz Sharif said the targets should be doubled.
The meeting also shared that the government is working to give free Wi-Fi in Islamabad, especially in hospitals, schools, government offices, parks, and metro bus stations.
