Shehbaz Sharif Slams Israel Over Al Aqsa Violation
Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Israel’s Actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly criticized Israel after one of its ministers visited the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem and prayed there, which goes against long-standing rules.
In a post on social media site X (formerly Twitter), Sharif said that this act is deeply hurtful to over a billion Muslims around the world. He called it not just a religious insult, but also a violation of international law and human rights.
The prime minister warned that such repeated actions by Israel, along with talk of taking more land, are making the chances of peace even weaker. He said these moves are raising tensions in Palestine and across the Middle East, and could lead to more conflict.
Shehbaz Sharif again called for an immediate ceasefire, an end to violence, and a return to real peace talks. He said the goal must be a free and independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital, as per United Nations resolutions.
Israeli Minister Visits Al-Aqsa
The situation worsened when Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Sunday. He also said he prayed there.
This area is one of the most sensitive religious sites in the Middle East. According to an old agreement, Muslims manage the site through a Jordanian foundation, and Jews can visit but are not allowed to pray there.
After the visit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the country’s policy of not allowing Jewish prayer at the site has not changed.
