Shershah Khan Jailed Over May 9 Riots

Court Sends Shershah Khan to Jail in the May 9 Riots Case

Lahore – A court has denied the prosecution’s request for physical remand of Shershah Khan, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and ordered that he be sent to jail. The hearing centered on the violent incidents that took place during the May 9, 2023, protests, including the attack on Jinnah House in Lahore.

Authorities said Shershah was arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack. Police recovered a stick from him, conducted a photogrammetric test, and plan to collect material from his social media accounts. The court clarified that accessing such material does not require physical remand, but the accused has been sent to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, authorities shared details of FIRs registered against Shershah and his brother, Shahrez Khan, both nephews of Imran Khan and sons of his sister Aleema Khan. Security sources say the two were actively involved in the violent attacks, including arson, vandalism, and assaults on law enforcement during the May 9 riots.

According to the FIR, Shershah participated in setting police vans on fire, attacking security personnel, and damaging state property. Video evidence and geo-fencing data reportedly place him at the crime scene. After the riots, Shershah fled abroad and stayed in London for nearly two years while allegedly running anti-state campaigns online. He returned to Pakistan and was arrested on August 22, 2025.

Shahrez Khan is also accused of planning and taking part in the attacks. He was arrested on August 21, 2025, and presented before the court the following day after the FIR was formally registered.

Both men face charges including inciting violence, arson, vandalism, and assault on police officers. Authorities had requested a 30-day physical remand for polygraph testing and further investigation.

Security officials stressed that the arrests demonstrate that no one is above the law. “May 9 was an act of treason, and all those involved will face justice in accordance with the law,” they said.
