Flight Operations Resume at Sialkot Airport After Flood Alert

Sialkot – Flight operations have officially resumed at Sialkot International Airport after being temporarily disrupted by heavy flooding in Punjab.

According to airport authorities, the first incoming flight from Sharjah, carrying 170 passengers, has departed and is expected to land in Sialkot shortly. Officials confirmed that the runway, apron, terminal building, and all essential equipment remained safe from flood damage, allowing a swift restart of services.

Following the restoration, airlines have released revised schedules, while airport management assured that all arrangements for smooth operations are now in place.

Earlier, district administrations in Gujrat and Sialkot had declared a public holiday as floodwaters surged across the region. Heavy inflows from India into the Sutlej and Chenab rivers prompted a flood alert across Punjab.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Centre issued an urgent warning about extraordinary flooding in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, calling for the immediate evacuation of vulnerable areas.

NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider confirmed that more than 190,000 people have already been evacuated from flood-affected areas of Punjab, as rising water levels continue to endanger lives and property.

Meanwhile, Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi and Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali visited Head Marala to monitor the situation. In a separate incident, 20 people trapped under Shahbazpur Bridge were successfully rescued, DC Qureshi confirmed.
