Silva vs Weidman Boxing Fight Doubtful Family Says No
Anderson Silva’s Next Fight Uncertain as Family Questions Possible Boxing Match with Chris Weidman
Anderson Silva, the legendary UFC fighter known for holding the longest winning streak in UFC history with 16 consecutive wins and defending his title 10 times, fought well into his forties before leaving the UFC in 2020.
After his MMA career, Silva switched to boxing in 2021, scoring notable victories over former WBC champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and UFC veteran Tito Ortiz. However, he faced a setback in 2022 when he lost a decision to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Last year, the 50-year-old also took part in an exhibition boxing match against former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen, which ended in a draw.
Recently, reports have surfaced suggesting Silva could face off against Chris Weidman in a boxing match. Weidman is best known for handing Silva two defeats back in 2013 — once by knockout after Silva’s showboating went wrong, and another time when Silva suffered a serious leg injury.
But Silva’s family has cast doubt on the fight happening, saying the matchup seems unlikely. Meanwhile, Silva himself has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, keeping fans guessing. Chris Weidman, who holds a perfect 2-0 MMA record against Silva, has yet to comment publicly on the potential bout.
In other news, while in Los Angeles recently, Anderson Silva met with undefeated UFC contender Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev, who is preparing to challenge middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 on August 16 in Chicago, took the chance to snap a photo with the iconic “Spider” Silva during his visit.
Chimaev remains unbeaten with a 14-0 professional record as he gets ready for what promises to be a high-stakes title fight in the coming weeks.
