Sindh Germany Discuss Investment as New Visa Rules Kick In
Karachi, Pakistan – Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met with German Consul General Rüdiger Lotz Schultze to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on trade, cultural cooperation, and foreign investment opportunities.
During the meeting, the chief minister assured full cooperation from the Sindh government and emphasized the province’s potential as an investment hub. He noted that Karachi, in particular, offers attractive prospects for German businesses. “The provincial government is committed to facilitating foreign investment and expanding economic relations,” Shah said.
Consul General Schultze thanked the chief minister for the warm reception and agreed that stronger investment cooperation is needed. Both sides also explored opportunities to enhance collaboration between German institutions and technical education schools in Sindh.
The development comes as Germany recently updated its visa appointment system in Pakistan. In April, the Consulate General in Karachi announced that due to high demand, visa applicants can no longer directly book appointments. Instead, they must now register on a waiting list, with slots allocated later based on availability.
The new system applies to both Schengen and long-term visas, except for the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), which can still be booked directly through the consulate’s online system. According to the consulate, appointments will be assigned chronologically based on registration date and available capacity.
