Sindh Launches Solar Scheme for Farmers and Households

Hyderabad – Sindh’s Minister for Agriculture, Anti-Corruption, and Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, has announced a new solar energy initiative for small and medium-scale farmers.

Under the scheme, farmers owning between 5 and 25 acres of land are eligible to apply. A total of 295 solar units will be installed, covering about 4,000 acres of farmland. Farmers will contribute 20% of the cost, while the Sindh government will bear the remaining 80%.

Applications must be submitted by September 20 at the Director General Agriculture Office in Hyderabad, Mahar said. The initiative is aimed at promoting renewable energy in agriculture and reducing dependence on traditional power sources.

Earlier, the Sindh government also introduced a separate program to distribute free solar panels to households consuming up to 100 electricity units per month. Applications for this scheme are still being accepted through the Sindh Energy Department.

According to official data, the government has planned to provide solar panels to 200,000 families. So far, 77,000 homes have received panels, while another 123,000 will be covered in the next phase. If applications exceed the quota, beneficiaries will be selected through a lottery system.
