“If Muhammad Amir is willing to return to Pakistan, I will speak with him.” Afridi Shaheen
During a recent X Space session, Pakistan’s T20I skipper, Shaheen Shah Afridi, interacted with fans and shared his thoughts on the likelihood of former teammate Mohammad Amir rejoining the national squad.
As they now play together for the Desert Vipers in the IlT20, Afridi said he was willing to talk about Amir making a comeback.
“I will talk to Mohammad Amir if he’s available to come back for Pakistan once again,” Afridi said during the X Space session. I went bowling with Amir after nearly five years apart. Bowling with him was a terrific experience; we had a great partnership.
Amir has always insisted that he has “moved on” from international cricket. He announced his retirement from the game in 2020, claiming conflicts with the head coach and bowling coach. Amir has stated that he is focusing on other things in his life, despite requests from fans for him to change his mind.
Amir mentioned in a previous news conference that the Pakistan cricket establishment is subject to frequent changes, which makes it difficult to return to the international scene after a three-year hiatus. He said that, at least for the time being, he had concluded the discussion on his return.
Thoughts on a possible comeback are still ongoing, particularly in light of Amir’s close bond with Shaheen Afridi and the approaching T20 World Cup.
Talks regarding a potential return are made more interesting by Amir’s noteworthy accomplishments to Pakistan’s cricket history, which include being a member of the squads that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2009.
Even though Amir has always stated that he would prefer not to return, his strong relationship with Afridi and the importance of the T20 World Cup allow for conjecture on a possible return, even if Amir’s position is now unwavering.
