Rafael Nadal was eliminated from the 2024 French Open

Tennis player Rafael Nadal lost to Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(5), and 6-3 on Monday to exit the French Open 2024 in Round 1.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal attempted to win on Court Philippe Chatrier by putting out a heroic effort, but the 37-year-old was unsuccessful.

The 14-time Roland Garros champion said Monday in a post-match interview: “I want to say thank you, it is incredible.” I find it challenging to speak. I’m not sure if this will be my final appearance in front of you. My emotions right now are difficult to put into words.”

“To experience love in my favorite place. I must commend Sascha on an excellent match. I wish you the best because I know that 2022 has been a very difficult time for you.

Rafael Nadal triumphed 90 points to 109 for his opponent. In what might have been his final game, he was served at 0-30, according to The Telegraph.

The Spanish athlete had hip surgery, preventing him from competing in more than four events since January last year.

2005 saw Nadal win his first French Open championship. He possessed fourteen titles up until that point.

He declared: “I’ve been through a difficult time with many injuries, but I overcame everything to return here. I had opportunities, but not enough to defeat such a talented player. Though I can’t guarantee it, there’s a good chance I won’t be returning. I feel better in my body than I did two months ago.”

The Spaniard is regarded as the best player of Clay’s season due to his flawless record there; in 116 games played at Roland Garros, including Monday’s loss, he has only lost four times.

“I have incredible feelings on this court; as a child, I never imagined I would be here at 28,” Nadal continued. I apologize, 38. I would adore turning 28! Every memory has been unique and really meaningful. The support has been fantastic. My sincerest gratitude to you for everything. To be honest, I’m not sure if this will be my final visit. I’m not positive.”
