Former AJK PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Denies Charges in Court Over Diplomatic Passport Misuse
ISLAMABAD – The hearing of the case against former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Premier Sardar Tanveer Ilyas took place before Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Shahzad Gondal. Ilyas appeared in court, where the charges against him were formally read out. The former premier denied the allegations and confirmed his intention to contest the case.
The court has adjourned the hearing until October 6 and summoned the prosecution’s witnesses for the next session.
Ilyas faces allegations of misusing his diplomatic passport to travel abroad after stepping down from office. During a previous hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the former AJK premier had traveled to Saudi Arabia despite his diplomatic passport being canceled. Authorities also noted that Ilyas had failed to return the passport as required by law.

In a separate development, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas officially joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in June during a ceremony in Karachi. He met with PPP Women’s Wing President Faryal Talpur at Zardari House, where he was formally welcomed into the party and presented with the party flag.
Several prominent figures were present at the event, including Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, Sardar Yaqoob Khan, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Chaudhry Riaz, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, and AJK IT Minister Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar.
Alongside Tanveer Ilyas, political figures Sardar Ahmad Saghir and Ali Shan Soni also announced their decision to join the PPP, signaling a notable political shift in the region.
