Deadline for Income Tax Returns Extended Till October 15

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has granted taxpayers an additional 15 days to file their Income Tax Returns, extending the deadline to October 15.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed the extension through an official notification. According to FBR sources, around 400,000 taxpayers have already submitted their returns. The process can be completed online through a simplified return form available on the FBR website.

Initially, September 30 was announced as the last date, but the business community had been pressing for an extension.

Meanwhile, the FBR has finalized preparations to begin auditing 100,000 tax returns from October 1, focusing mainly on business entities. Officials cautioned that individuals concealing assets or providing false information will face strict action. Taxpayers showing reduced income compared to previous years will also come under deeper scrutiny.

In a separate development, the FBR has removed the controversial “estimated market value” column from the 2025 tax return form, following the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A high-level committee, chaired by Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, had recommended its removal to simplify the filing process.

The column was originally added for data collection purposes to support the Economic Survey, but it did not affect tax liability.

The FBR reiterated its commitment to making tax compliance easier and urged citizens to submit their returns honestly before the new deadline
