After two years together, pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have announced their engagement. The couple shared the happy news in a playful Instagram post, captioned: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” alongside a carousel of engagement photos.
This announcement comes just a month after Kelce publicly confirmed his relationship with Swift on Instagram. Swift later appeared on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce to promote her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
According to Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, the proposal actually took place earlier than the social media reveal. “Maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” he said in a recent interview, noting that the engagement happened at the NFL star’s home.
Ed Kelce added that his son had initially planned a grander gesture, but he encouraged him to propose wherever he felt special. “I told him repeatedly, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” he explained.
The proposal, as Ed Kelce described, took place just before a dinner outing. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine’ … That’s when he asked her. It was beautiful.”
Following the engagement, the couple made sure to FaceTime both sets of parents to share the joyous moment. “To see them together is great,” Ed Kelce added.
