Taylor Swift Sparks Vintage Diamond Trend
Taylor Swift’s Engagement Sparks Antique Diamond Trend
Ever since Taylor Swift announced her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce on Instagram—sharing dreamy proposal snapshots and close-ups of her stunning ring—interest in antique diamonds has surged, according to jeweller and gemologist Ali Galgano.
Galgano, who works between New York and Greenwich, Connecticut, told a foreign publication that Swift’s engagement instantly set off a new trend for rectangular-cut diamonds with vintage charm.
“Antique cuts naturally command a premium over modern designs, and we’re already seeing demand soar after Taylor’s announcement,” she said. “Within just 24 hours of the news, I received hundreds of inquiries from clients asking about antique cushions.”
While Swift’s ring is estimated to weigh between 7 and 9 carats, Galgano notes that old-mine cuts of this size are extremely rare. “These stones were hand-cut for candlelight rather than electric light, long before modern symmetry standards existed. No two are alike,” she explained. “Unlike the sharp brilliance of modern cuts, antique diamonds offer a softer, romantic glow. That uniqueness is what makes them so coveted today. In a world filled with flawless, lab-grown diamonds, an older stone with its natural quirks feels authentic.”
Galgano also predicts Swift’s choice will influence broader trends, inspiring chunkier bands and moving away from the delicate styles that focus solely on the centre stone.
With Swift’s engagement ring already making headlines, it seems vintage diamonds are back in the spotlight.
