China announces a three-year artificial intelligence action plan

A three-year action plan aimed at “strengthening standards” in new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), has been announced by China.

The Central Cyberspace Affair Commission, State Administration for Market Regulation, and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly released the proposal, which was made public on Wednesday, according to an official statement.

According to the announcement, the plan calls for the Chinese institutions and specialists to lead the standardization process in a number of fields, including cloud computing, quantum information, generative AI, blockchain, brain-computer interfaces, next-generation internet, and metaverse.

“Better drive technological and economic development and enhance international influence” is the stated goal of the standardization process.

According to the statement, “an important part of the national standard system and serves as a crucial support for driving high-quality development” is the information flow through a system.

As per the plan, China’s participation and influence in international standards will significantly rise after 2027, as “the role of standards in guiding technological innovation and driving economic and social development should be fully realized.”
