China-Based Automaker BYD Unveils Water-Floating Vehicle
Prominent Chinese automaker BYD created a stir at the Geneva motor show with the introduction of its most recent design, the Yangwang U8 premium plug-in hybrid SUV.
This car has a number of cutting-edge characteristics, one of which is its amazing capacity to float in water in the event of an accident, providing an additional degree of safety for the occupants. The U8 also impresses with its agility, thanks to its four electric motors—one in each wheel—which enable it to park sideways like a crab or perform a full turn on the spot.
Though the Yangwang U8 is only accessible in China at the moment, BYD is thinking about exporting the device to other countries in order to broaden its consumer base. The Yangwang U8 has achieved notable sales success and attention in China since its launch in November. Despite its high pricing, which starts at 1.098 million yuan (about $152,550), the SUV has proven popular with buyers, with over 3,600 units sold by the end of January.
With the release of the Yangwang U9 sports supercar in China, BYD added even more high-end automobiles to its lineup. The U9, which has a starting price of 1.68 million yuan and is now accepting pre-orders, is meant to draw in performance fans and increase BYD’s market share in the high-end automobile sector.
Despite not having made a firm decision yet, BYD is considering bringing its high-end Yangwang brand to the European market. The company’s current key priorities are the introduction of its premium Denza brand and its electric and hybrid vehicle lineup.
