Google once promised a 300% raise to retain employees
Tech businesses use a variety of tactics to keep talent, such as creative benefits packages and forward-thinking work environments. However, did you know that Google, one of the biggest tech companies, once gave a worker a 300% pay raise in exchange for staying on staff?
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, told the Hindustan Times that Google did everything in its power to prevent one of its workers—a member of the “search team”—from quitting.
He shared this information on the Big Technology Podcast, stating that they were not even directly involved with its AI branch.
In the meantime, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, has stated that in order to build up the capacity for future investments, the firm could need to make some difficult decisions, such as layoffs.
Sundar Pichai stated, “We have ambitious goals and will be investing in our big priorities this year,” in an internal memo sent to every Google employee. In actuality, we must make difficult decisions in order to make this investment possible.”
Since January 10, around 1,000 employees at Google are said to have been let go across multiple areas.
Prior to this, Pichai had disclosed plans to eliminate 12,000 workers, or 6% of the total staff worldwide.
“I must break some tough news. We have made the decision to cut almost 12,000 positions from our staff. A separate email has already been sent to the impacted US workers. This process will take longer in other nations because of local customs and legislation,” he stated.
