New device achieves 20x higher data rates than 5G, ushering in the 6G era
Ultra-high quality movies may be downloaded in a matter of seconds thanks to the high-speed 6G wireless device developed by a group of Japanese telecommunications companies. This technology can carry data at up to 20 times the speed of 5G, according to an article published on Saturday by Interesting Engineering.
The device functions well within a range of up to 330 feet (100 meters) and can achieve data transfer rates of up to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps).
DOCOMO, NTT Corporation, NEC Corporation, and Fujitsu are the four companies that collaborated on this initiative. These businesses have been working together to research and produce sub-terahertz devices since 2021 in anticipation of the entrance of the 6G technology era.
Tests were able to achieve “ultra-high-speed 100 Gbps transmissions in the 100 GHz and 300 GHz bands at distances of up to 100 meters,” according to a release.
The developers of the project currently have a number of major obstacles to overcome. One of these is figuring out exactly what performance requirements wireless devices operating in the sub-terahertz band need to meet before those devices are developed.
Experts predict that future technologies will have limitless possibilities for seamless high-speed connectivity, opening up possibilities for real-time control in driverless vehicles, streaming of ultra-HD video, and much more.
