Aimal Wali was detained; two bombers were planning suicide strikes against Fazlur Rehman
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully prevented an attempt to rig the general elections scheduled for February 8 by apprehending two potential suicide bombers who were aiming to attack Aimal Wali Khan, the leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
CTD Superintendent of Police (SP) Najam-ul-Hussain revealed during a press briefing that two suspected suicide bombers connected to Daesh Khorasan from the Matni region had been apprehended.
He claimed that the terrorists who had been captured were preparing suicide assaults directed at important political people.
The people who were detained were allegedly planning a suicide strike against Fazl, according to the SP. It was also revealed that the terrorists intended to use a suicide bombing to target the ANP commander.
According to reports, the detained suspects had visited the JUI-F headquarters, and further inquiry showed that they had received training in the Afghan province of Paktia.
Authorities found propaganda materials linked to Daesh, three hand grenades, and suicide vests during the security operation. The explosives and weapons have been neutralized by the bomb disposal unit (BDU).
Six months ago, the SP revealed that the banned group was connected to the targeted murders of people who supported different ideologies in the area.
In a similar event, authorities have made headway in figuring out who set off the bomb on the Warsak Road. According to SP CTD, the terrorist responsible for the bombing on Warsak Road would soon be apprehended.
It is important to note that during Dera Ismail Khan’s Yarik interchange last month, shots were fired at the JUI-F chief’s vehicle from various directions. But he was not injured in the incident.
