Vanessa Kirby Shines in Crime Thriller ‘Night Always Comes’ on Netflix
Oscar-nominee Vanessa Kirby is making waves with her latest role in the crime thriller Night Always Comes, directed by Benjamin Caron. Based on Willy Vlautin’s novel and adapted for the screen by Sarah Conradt, the film follows Lynette (Kirby), a woman juggling multiple jobs to save her childhood home in Portland. She fights to protect her family, including her mother Doreen and older brother Kenny, who has Down Syndrome.
Since its release on Netflix on August 15, Night Always Comes has quickly captured viewers’ attention, amassing 11.3 million views and 20.8 million hours watched in just two days. The film secured the second spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 for the week ending August 17, trailing only the animated hit Kpop Demon Hunters. Other titles in the top 10 include My Oxford Year, Happy Gilmore 2, Home, Megamind, Elektra, Kandahar, Fixed, and Despicable Me 2.
Critics have been mixed on the film, giving it a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Kirby’s compelling performance has been widely praised, bringing depth and authenticity to the story despite its clichés and uneven focus.
