'We are Lady Parts' will have a bolder, funnier new season with Malala Yousufzai

According to Deadline, a second season of We Are Lady Parts, the British comedy that follows the life of the all-women Muslim punk band Lady Parts, will premiere on Peacock. The streaming service will debut all six new episodes on May 30. This season’s guest performers include British comedian Meera Syal and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousufzai.

According to the newspaper, We Are Lady Parts presents founder Nida Manzoor’s encounters with London-based artists and cultural collectives. Leading a varied cast, Sarah Kameela Impey portrays the ferocious and mysterious front lady Saira, while Anjana Vasan plays lead guitarist and PhD candidate Amina Hussain. Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole, Lucie Shorthouse, Aiysha Hart, Zaqi Ismail, and Shobu Kapoor are among the other actors.

The We Are Lady Parts pilot, according to NBC, aired in 2018 before the entire six-episode season 1 debuted in 2021. The band’s individual complexity allows the show to delve into themes such as friendship, familial responsibilities, and societal expectations of women.

We Are Lady Parts’ creator, writer, and director, Manzoor, said, “It was enormous for me to make season one.” “I found my voice, my style, and my confidence in creating this show, but it was a trial by fire.” “Most importantly, I found my tribe,” she continued, referring to everyone from producers and studio executives to actors and crew.

Having set the groundwork, Manzoor found it quite straightforward to work on the second season of her idea. “I was galvanised coming into season two,” she said. Everything was there, developed, and prepared to go: the characters, the setting, and the tone. It was time to really kick things up a notch now. We really tried to go deeper, darker, sillier, and bolder, which is exactly what I intended to achieve.

Manzoor claims that the upcoming season would go further into each character’s personal life. She clarified, “Each of them facing new, existential challenges with all the pranks, nonsense, and silliness of season one.” The director went on, “The music is bigger too – more wild original tunes (penned by me and my siblings) and dare I say it, even better covers.” He was tasked with writing more original music for the play.

Manzoor, who created a universe centered around the music business, expressed her excitement at being able to finally share her idea with the public and explained that the program will explore the topic of what success means. “Is stardom, playing big arenas, and signing big record deals the answer for a punk band?” she questioned. “I wanted to investigate the uneasy tension that exists between art and business and determine how much is too much compromise. I’m thrilled to share what we’ve accomplished with both old and new fans.

Peacock offers all six of the episodes from the first season of We Are Lady Parts. Working Title Television (WTTV), a branch of Universal Studio Group’s Universal International Studios, is responsible for the show’s production.
