WhatsApp Tests Close Friends Status on iOS
WhatsApp Testing ‘Close Friends’ Status Feature for iOS Users
WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature called “Close Friends’ Status Updates”, currently being tested on iOS devices. The update is expected to be officially announced in the coming weeks.
According to reports, the feature will allow users to create a private list of selected contacts through the app’s privacy settings. Status updates shared with this list will only be visible to those chosen, offering a more personal sharing experience.
These exclusive updates will carry a distinct look, likely marked with a special color or indicator, and will follow WhatsApp’s standard status cycle, disappearing after 24 hours.
The move mirrors Instagram’s “Close Friends” feature, giving users greater control over who sees their content while enhancing privacy options. At present, WhatsApp allows statuses to be shared with all contacts or hidden from specific ones, but the new option aims to make sharing more streamlined and intimate.
The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta version 25.23.10.80 for iOS. While no official launch date has been confirmed, it is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing strategy to stay ahead of rivals by rolling out user-focused updates.
New Voicemail-Style Feature in Testing
In a separate development, WhatsApp is also testing a voicemail-style shortcut for missed calls. The feature allows users to send a quick voice message if a call goes unanswered, making communication faster and more convenient.
This option is currently available for select Android beta users (version 2.25.23.21) and can be accessed directly from the call screen.
With these updates, WhatsApp continues to expand its tools to improve user experience, making the app more versatile and user-friendly.
