World Cup 1992: The day when Pakistan won

On this day, 22nd February, Prime Minister Imran Khan and a well-known cricket legend began his campaign to lead Pakistan to world cup glory.

A back then snaps of all the captains from the 1992 world cup; is circulating all over social media as after the International Cricket Council (ICC) remembered that day in a tweet today.

“#OnThisDay in 1992, the fifth men’s cricket world cup got underway in Australia and New Zealand,” the tweet read.

In the snap, PM Imran Khan can be seen sitting on a bench with the English captain and the Sri Lankan batsman standing behind him.

Pakistan played their first match against the West Indies on February 23, 1992, in which the West Indies had beaten Pakistan by 10 wickets.

Moreover, Pakistan won their next encounter against Zimbabwe by 53 runs. The green shirts played their next match against England.

Later, Pakistan had proceeded to beat New Zealand twice in the remaining matches; to qualify for the final against England.
Taking the trophy home, Pakistan beat England by 22 runs in the final to secure its only world cup victory.
