Zardari is expected to be elected to the presidency as the PPP and PML-N form an alliance

When Alvi's tenure expires, Zardari intends to be elected president

Leading member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari, is anticipated to serve as president of the nation for a second term following his party’s agreement to join forces with the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) in order to establish a government in the center, according to sources on Wednesday.

A six-party alliance comprising the PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Q, IPP, and BAP declared on Tuesday that they will establish a government in the center modeled after the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, marking a significant political shift.

Former President Zardari announced the formation of the six-party coalition for the upcoming coalition government during a press conference. The meeting took place at the home of PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, where party leaders discussed the formation of a government.

PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had stated prior to the top leaders’ news conference that his party will back the PML-N in its quest to choose a prime minister without joining the federal government.

In response to a question about the constitutional positions of president, speaker of the National Assembly, and chairman of the Senate, the PPP chairman stated that while the party would select its nominees for these positions, he personally preferred Asif Ali Zardari to be president “because the country is burning and if anyone can help put the fire out, it is Asif Ali Zardari”.

In addition to the presidency, the sources say that Sarfraz Bugti, the head of the PPP, has informed his party about the political climate in the province and that the party is also considering the position of chief minister in Balochistan.

The sources claim that in exchange for PPP backing Shehbaz for prime minister, the PML-N leadership has decided to back Zardari for the presidency.

The nation will see the president of the PPP and the prime minister of the PML-N, assuming nothing changes.

Meanwhile, PPP did not want the top constitutional position of president, according to senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah.

Shehbaz had prior experience working with allies, according to a statement from Sanaullah, while Asif Ali Zardari possesses the political astuteness to make wise decisions.

He said that the PPP had made no commitments and had not requested the presidency. “We hope that [JUI-F chief] Fazlur Rehman will become part of the government,” he stated.
