The travel sector is expected to undergo a major transition after mid-January 2024, especially in the UAE, due to the expectation of considerable airfare reductions. The CEO of MPQ Travel and Tourism, Malou Prado, emphasizes that the longest-haul routes from the United Arab Emirates will likely see the biggest fare reductions, potentially reaching 50–60%. This comes after the busiest travel season in the winter, when demand for travel has reached an all-time high and created difficulties for last-minute reservations.
Many high-traffic routes, such as those to the UK, major European cities, South Asia, the Philippines, and even longer routes like the US, are projected to gain from the anticipated decline in airfare pricing. For example, it is anticipated that economy class prices from London Heathrow to Dubai International will drop from Dh5,135 to Dh2,410. Routes to Dubai from New York and San Francisco should see similar cuts.
The chairman of Smart Travels, Afi Ahmed, notes that this low fare period is probably going to last until about March 10. This length of time is linked to a decline in corporate traveler demand and traveler families with school-age children. Budget-conscious tourists are said to have a great opportunity to visit the UAE during this time.
Even if the cost of tickets is predicted to increase by around 25–50% compared to September and early October, more affordable solutions should be available in the following months. Booking.com’s vice-president and managing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Carlo Olejniczak, reports robust booking increase for the first quarter of the year, pointing to a persistent demand for travel.
Global travel is predicted to significantly increase by the International Air Travel Association (IATA), with 4.7 billion people likely to travel in 2024—a number that would surpass the 4.5 billion pre-pandemic levels of 4.5 billion in 2019. This positive forecast highlights the travel industry’s global resilience and revival.
