Earhart Plane Clue Found
A team is going to explore a faraway island called Nikumaroro, which is between Australia and Hawaii. They want to find out if a strange object seen by a satellite—called the “Taraia Object”—could be the missing plane of Amelia Earhart, known as The Electra.
Amelia Earhart was a famous pilot. She was the first woman to fly alone across the United States without stopping, back on August 24, 1932. Later, she worked at Purdue University, helping women with career advice and giving guidance on flying.
Purdue’s president, Mung Chiang, said Earhart still inspires the university. He said her spirit of adventure lives on, even though almost 90 years have passed since she worked at Purdue and got ready for her big flight around the world.
Richard Pettigrew, who leads the group running the search, said this might be the best chance ever to solve the mystery of what happened to Earhart. He said the clues are strong, and they hope to come back with answers.
Earhart’s plane disappeared in 1937 while she was trying to fly around the world. Purdue’s senior vice president, Steven Schultz, said that Earhart and her husband had planned to give the plane to the university after her trip.
