Sultana Quits Labour Joins Corbyn to Launch New Party
Zarah Sultana has said she is leaving the Labour Party after 14 years. She made this decision because of disagreements with party leaders, especially over the war in Gaza. She will now help start a new political party with Jeremy Corbyn and other independent MPs and activists from around the country.
Sultana said Labour leader Keir Starmer’s support for Israel’s actions in Gaza was wrong. She said, “This government is helping commit genocide, and the British people are against it.”
She also talked about how rich the country’s top families have become, saying, “Only 50 families now own more than half of the UK’s wealth.”
Sultana was earlier suspended from the Labour Party in Parliament because she voted against the party’s rules on the two-child benefit limit.

The new party will try to offer people a better choice, especially for those who feel the current system isn’t working for ordinary citizens.
The new party’s launch date hasn’t been shared yet, but experts think it could bring together a group of MPs, possibly even some who leave Labour, and become important in Parliament.
Sultana has often criticised the UK government for supporting Israel politically and militarily. She also spoke out against a recent decision to label Palestine Action—a protest group—as a terrorist group. She said this was an unfair attack on people trying to stop the violence in Gaza.
She ended her statement by saying, “We won’t stay silent. We’re not strangers—we’re people who are hurting together.”
