Monsoon Rains Kill 87 in Pakistan
Deadly Monsoon Rains Kill 87 Across Pakistan, Dozens More Injured
At least 87 people have lost their lives and 149 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan over the past two weeks, according to a report by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The report highlights the devastating impact of the ongoing monsoon season, with flash floods cited as the leading cause of deaths.
In just the last 24 hours, six more fatalities were reported, underscoring the persistent threat from heavy rains and flooding.
Worst-Hit Areas
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was the most severely affected, with 30 deaths reported — including 14 children — and 30 injuries. Punjab followed closely with 29 fatalities, including 15 children and four women, and 77 injuries.
Other provinces also reported casualties:
Sindh: 16 deaths, 34 injuries
Balochistan: 11 deaths, 3 injuries
Azad Kashmir: 1 death, 5 injuries
The NDMA warned that flash floods, collapsing structures, and other rain-induced hazards continue to pose serious risks to life and property.
Widespread Rainfall Brings Relief, But Also Destruction
Heavy rains have brought significant weather changes across the country, breaking the heatwave but also causing damage. Punjab cities, including Sialkot, Gujrat, Chiniot, Kasur, Sargodha, and Ferozewala, experienced intense downpours with thunder and lightning.
In northern Punjab, areas like Daska, Narowal, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, and Pindi Bhattian saw heavy rainfall, turning the weather pleasant but triggering alerts for flash floods. Wazirabad also experienced strong gusty winds.
In southern Pakistan, cities such as Shahdadkot, Qambar, Mehar, Sujawal Junejo, and Qubo Saeed Khan in Sindh and Balochistan received moderate to heavy rainfall. Karachi recorded early morning drizzle on Thursday, signaling ongoing instability in the weather pattern.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as more rain is expected in the coming days. The NDMA urges the public to stay cautious, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
