27 Bodies Found During Rescue Work, Building Officials Arrested
During the rescue operation, 27 dead bodies were found under the collapsed building’s debris.
According to sources in the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), several building officials were arrested during a meeting held at the SBCA office. The meeting was attended by the Director General of the SBCA.
Police arrested many officers during the raid, including:
Additional Director General Irfan Naqvi
Director Ashfaq Khokhar
Director of Structures Faheem Murtaza
Deputy Directors Asim Khan and Faheem Siddiqui
Inspector Zulfiqar Shah
Former Director Asif Rizvi (who was invited to the meeting)
Also, Director of Industries Jalees Siddiqui and Assistant Director Zafar were taken into custody.
The meeting was called to discuss illegal construction done between 2021 and 2025.
SBCA sources said the arrested officers were linked to Lyari Division and South Zone. These officers were working in Lyari Town and were arrested for allowing illegal buildings.
A case has been filed against the officers and builders at the Baghdadi police station.
