PIA Set to Resume Direct UK Flights in August After Five-Year Ban Lifted

KARACHI – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is preparing to restart direct flights to the United Kingdom this August, following the recent removal of a five-year ban imposed by British authorities on all Pakistani carriers.

The national carrier’s CEO conducted an in-depth inspection at Karachi’s Asfahani Hangar, closely reviewing the technical readiness of a Boeing 777 aircraft designated for UK operations. He was accompanied by senior officials and issued strict instructions to ensure the aircraft meets all international safety and service standards.

The airline’s Chief Technical Officer briefed the CEO on the upgrades and modifications being made to prepare the aircraft for long-haul service to the UK.

While PIA has made significant progress in preparations, the airline is currently awaiting final clearance from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) before it can officially resume services.

This development marks a major step in PIA’s efforts to restore its international standing and reestablish crucial air links, particularly after the ban introduced in 2020 due to safety concerns.

The UK is Pakistan’s third-largest trade partner, with bilateral trade exceeding £4.7 billion annually. The resumption of direct flights is expected to enhance tourism, family visits, and business travel, further strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
