Trump Backed Gaza Plan Discussed at White House Meeting
White House to Hold High-Level Meeting on Gaza Plan
Washington – A senior adviser to former President Donald Trump said the White House will host a major meeting tomorrow, chaired by the president, to discuss a comprehensive plan for the “day after” in Gaza, though he did not provide further details.
Speaking to Fox News, Witkoff was asked whether the plan addressed the situation in Gaza following the conflict between Israel and Hamas that began in October 2023. He declined to elaborate, saying only that the plan is “robust” and “well-meaning.”
Earlier this year, Trump drew global attention with a controversial proposal to take U.S. control of the Gaza Strip, relocate its two million residents, and develop seaside real estate. He suggested clearing rubble and unexploded ordnance to transform Gaza into what he called the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
The proposal received support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but faced sharp criticism from European and Arab nations.
The ongoing war in Gaza has taken a heavy toll. Hamas’s October 2023 attacks on Israel killed 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to AFP figures based on official sources. Meanwhile, Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed at least 62,819 Palestinians, predominantly civilians, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which the United Nations considers a reliable source.
