Pakistan Floods Wreck 120 Health Centers
Floods Damage Over 120 Health Centers Across Pakistan
ISLAMABAD — The recent floods have taken a heavy toll on Pakistan’s health infrastructure, with around 120 medical centers affected nationwide, according to a report submitted to the federal government.
The report reveals that 104 health facilities sustained damage — seven were destroyed while 97 were partially affected. The worst-hit regions include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where entire centers were reduced to rubble.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three health centers were destroyed, while two each in Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan also collapsed. Sindh reported damage to 25 facilities, Punjab to 12, and Gilgit-Baltistan to seven, including two rendered non-functional.
Authorities say that 97 partially damaged centers have already been restored, ensuring the continuation of basic medical services. But in areas where facilities were destroyed, communities remain without reliable access to healthcare.
The floods also hit the homes of frontline health workers. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, 60 residences of lady health workers were damaged — 32 destroyed and 28 partially affected — further straining community-level medical support.
Officials stress that rebuilding health infrastructure is now a top priority, as several regions continue to face critical gaps in medical care.
