Punjab, Bangladesh Vow Stronger Ties in Key Sectors
Lahore — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has underscored the importance of closer cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stressing shared history, brotherhood, and opportunities for future collaboration.
The remarks came during her meeting in Lahore with Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Khalid Hussain. PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. MD Iqbal Hussain Khan, also attended the discussions.
Maryam Nawaz praised Bangladesh’s progress in the garment industry, microfinance, and women’s empowerment, describing them as crucial drivers of social progress. She said Punjab looks forward to working with Bangladesh on green energy, flood management, and sustainable agriculture, adding that she is committed to turning the Pak-Bangladesh bond into a “lasting regional partnership.”
Nawaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, noting that the Pakistani people hold deep affection for their Bangladeshi brothers and sisters. He highlighted national hero MM Alam as a symbol of shared pride and applauded Bangladesh’s economic growth and focus on public welfare.
Dr. Khalid Hussain, while appreciating the Nawaz family’s role in Pakistan’s development, commended CM Maryam’s leadership and reaffirmed Dhaka’s commitment to stronger ties with Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan said the people of Bangladesh continue to hold Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in high regard for conducting nuclear tests, and the younger generation particularly admires his leadership. He also praised Maryam Nawaz’s initiatives in public service and welfare.
