Pakistan Launches Nationwide HPV Vaccination Drive for Girls

Islamabad – Pakistan has kicked off a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign targeting girls aged 9 to 14, officials confirmed. The drive, which will run from September 15 to 27, covers Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir.

The federal and provincial governments, along with Azad Kashmir authorities, have already received supplies of HPV vaccines and syringes ahead of the campaign. A total of 13 million girls are expected to receive a single dose of the vaccine during this period.

Vaccinations will be administered at public and private girls’ schools, madrassas, community centers, fixed sites, and through mobile vaccination units, ensuring broad coverage across urban and rural areas.

Punjab has received 8.8 million doses, Sindh 4 million, Azad Kashmir 349,000, and Islamabad 152,000, according to sources. The vaccines and syringes, valued at Rs 10 billion, have been provided by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Officials said the rollout will continue in phases, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scheduled for 2026, and Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan in 2027. Gavi will continue supplying the vaccines free of charge for all phases.

In the long term, Pakistan aims to integrate the HPV vaccine into its routine immunization program, ensuring vaccination for all girls up to the age of nine. Future campaigns will see the government procuring the vaccine directly.
