Heavy Police Deployment Ordered Ahead of AJK Protests
MUZAFFARABAD – The Superintendent of Police (SP) Headquarters has arranged major transport and logistics support for a police contingent being sent to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) amid a protest call by the Awami Action Committee.
According to officials, 85 coaches and five trucks loaded with anti-riot equipment have been allocated, while single-cabin vehicles will carry tear gas, 12-bore guns, and rubber bullets. At least eight squad vehicles equipped with arms will also accompany the force.
Inspector Muhammad Asghar has been appointed to lead the operation, with Assistant Sub-Inspector Azmat Ullah responsible for transport coordination. The personnel and equipment are expected to leave for AJK in phases throughout the day.
The deployment follows a strike and protest call announced by the Awami Action Committee. In parallel, the federal government has launched talks to ease tensions.
The minister has set up a negotiation team, including federal ministers Ameer Muqam and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who have been tasked with holding discussions with the Awami Action Committee and consulting the AJK government.
