Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Netanyahu Ahead of Jewish New Year
KIRYAT GAT, Israel – Just before the start of the Jewish New Year on Monday evening, a man in his forties from the southern town of Kiryat Gat walked into the local police station and threatened to kill Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to police, the suspect told officers he planned to buy a firearm and shoot Netanyahu three times. He was immediately taken into custody. Authorities said an indictment is expected to be filed against him on Thursday, and they intend to keep him in detention until the legal process concludes.
The incident comes amid declining public support for Netanyahu over the nearly two-year war in Gaza against Hamas militants, which has raised concerns about Israel’s growing international isolation.
Meanwhile, 48 hostages are being held in Gaza, with authorities believing 20 are still alive. Families of the hostages have called on the Israeli government to negotiate their release and bring them home safely.
