Basit Ali Wants Shaheen Afridi Back as Pakistan Captain
Basit Ali Blames Coach and Captain for Pakistan’s Defeat to India, Urges PCB to Reinstate Shaheen Afridi
Former cricketer Basit Ali has held Pakistan’s foreign coach Mike Hesson responsible for the team’s loss to India in the final, criticizing what he called “poor planning.” Speaking during a special transmission, he appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to remove Hesson and appoint a local coach who, in his words, could “feel for the country.”
Basit also raised concerns over the team’s preparation and leadership ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. He said the Green Shirts have consistently failed against top international sides and questioned whether the current setup is capable of delivering results.
Aiming captain Salman Ali Agha, Basit described him as a “yes man” unfit to lead, accusing him of lacking the authority to make decisive calls on the field. He particularly criticized the decision not to utilize Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Nawaz as bowlers during key phases of the recent match.
Turning his attention to star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, Basit alleged that the fast bowler had been mistreated under the current management. He urged PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to take bold measures to restore balance within the squad and regain the trust of fans.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi was sacked unjustly. He should be reinstated as captain of the national side,” Basit asserted.
