PPP Meets Dar After Maryam Row

PPP Delegation to Meet Ishaq Dar After Maryam Nawaz’s Remarks Spark Tensions

ISLAMABAD – Tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the ruling PML-N have escalated after remarks made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz triggered walkouts from the National Assembly and Senate.

According to sources, the government has invited PPP leaders for talks, with a meeting scheduled for today. A PPP delegation led by Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Jakhrani will meet Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss unresolved matters and the fallout from recent political exchanges.

Insiders say PPP will formally present its concerns to the deputy prime minister, particularly over Maryam Nawaz’s statements. The delegation is also expected to press for relief measures for flood-affected communities and highlight governance issues in Punjab.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, however, dismissed the PPP’s demand for an apology. She said Maryam Nawaz would not retract her words, insisting the CM was defending the rights of Punjab.

“Why should Maryam Nawaz apologize for working for the people of Punjab?” Bukhari remarked. She further urged PPP to focus on development in Sindh, stating, “People praise Lahore’s progress—PPP should work to make Karachi the same.”

Bukhari also recalled the Cholistan water canal issue, saying Punjab had stepped back despite protests from Sindh, stressing that PPP should “let PML-N do its job.”
