Karachi Police Roll Out E-Challan System to Improve Road Safety

KARACHI – The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) has urged Karachi residents to strictly follow traffic rules, highlighting the launch of a new automated e-challan system aimed at reducing road accidents. Speaking at a seminar in a local hotel, the IGP emphasized that citizen cooperation is key to making roads safer.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic added that the new system, which issues challans with photo and video evidence, is designed to streamline traffic management and curb violations. The challans will be sent directly to violators’ homes, and citizens can also check their details via the official traffic police mobile app.

However, some city stakeholders expressed concerns about the initiative, pointing out that Karachi’s crumbling infrastructure could pose challenges in implementing the system effectively.

Police officials also highlighted improvements to the city’s driving licence system, noting that over 300,000 residents have obtained online licences so far, further supporting safer and more efficient traffic management.

Authorities stressed that adherence to traffic rules is not only about avoiding fines but is essential to prevent accidents and ensure safer roads for everyone.
