Bayern Dominates Lazio with 4-1 victory

Bayern

The Bayern Munich side which Hansi Flick selected yesterday may have been the most consistent and well-performing team we’ve seen; since the first game of the UCL Group Stage when Die Roten beat Atletico Madrid 4-0.

From the very start; Bayern’s pressing defense and relentless attacking overwhelmed Biancocelesti to the point of exhaustion both mentally and physically. Lazio’s defense and midfield were error-prone with two mishaps directly leading to goals for the visiting Bavarians.
In short; Lazio knew they were going to have a tough second leg in Munich; needed to step up to gain an advantage at home. They did not.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with his 72nd goal to overtake Raul as the tournament’s third-highest scorer.

Bayern was in complete control in the first leg against Lazio after Lewandowski pounced on Mateo Musacchio’s sloppy back pass to round Pepe Reina and slot into an empty net in the ninth minute.

Leroy Sane added a third and then forced an own goal before Lazio responded through Joaquin Correa.

Fifteen minutes later, Musiala, slotted a composed finish into the bottom corner to double Bayern’s lead.

Kingsley Coman then toyed with the Lazio defense and when his shot was palmed out by Reina, former Manchester City winger Sane was on hand to tap in a third.

Sane’s dangerous delivery was turned into his own net from close range by Francesco Acerbi immediately after the break to all but wrap up Bayern’s progression to the quarter-finals.

Lazio, on their first appearance in the knockout stages for 21 years, found a consolation when Correa jinked through the Bayern defense for a clever solo goal.

Bayern host Lazio in the return leg on 17 March.
