Introvert and Proud? Find Out More About Yourself!
First, I want to pose a question. What is the first thing that comes into your mind when someone says the word ‘introvert’? Do you automatically think about shy people? Or perhaps you imagine someone who doesn’t socialize with others. There are endless situations but most people just assume that the kid at the back of the class who doesn’t talk much is an introvert. If you did, then I’m sorry to say but your knowledge of the subject is quite lacking.
Introverts are very versatile creatures like any other human being. In fact, there are even types of introverts. I know, right? Who would have guessed? So, to spread more awareness on how introverts are more than just shy, unsocial creatures, I’m sharing the four main types of introverts and how you can identify them. Perhaps, you may realize, that you are an introvert after all.
General Conception
Our general definition of an introvert is a person who needs to recharge by withdrawing from social and hyperactive situations. I know this sounds like most of us but I’m not just talking about a full day. In fact, I’m talking about a normal day. A day when nothing unusual happened and no excessive energy was utilized anywhere. Still, introverts need to recharge by spending time with themselves. What they choose to do at this time is… not really anyone’s business.
Wait! You’re an Introvert! And You’re Social?
Stop messing around. But, I’m not. Research studies show that they are four kinds of introverts including a social introvert. I know. The paradox is really killing our brains. However, social introverts are both the most outgoing and private out of all introverts. Yup. Let that seep in. As I said, the paradox is really killing our brains!
So, these people are not shy nor anxious in social settings. Also, they may enjoy being the center of attention. But, true to their introvert-like selves, they need to recharge once they’re emotionally drained. For example, we all have that one friend who is super shy when it comes to meeting strangers. However, in their friends group, they are the party planner and mood makers. But, if you get in the way of their ‘me’, time, you are asking for TROUBLE. Never disturb an introvert when they are recharging.
But, what’s the difference between these people and extroverts? Simple. Unlike extroverts, they only form close bonds with their intimate friends and avoid sharing information with people they’ve just met. Unlike some of my extroverted friends…
Shush! I’m Trying to Think!
The second type of introvert is ‘thinking introvert’. Now, you’re probably just thinking that this girl is making these things up. However, you can easily conduct a google search and be on your way. But, instead of wasting your time, just get your info here.
Anyway, thinking introverts are typically caught up in their own little worlds. Daydreaming and fantasizing is what they do best! Also, they are introspective and are more in tune with their feelings than the average being. Now, that’s what I call a cool person! They won’t explain these thoughts to you though as they’d rather enjoy their thought processes by themselves.
Anxious Introvert
Okay. Let’s be honest. How many of you replay previous conversations or situations in your mind and wished you had reacted differently? Almost everyone, right? Well, thank God I’m not the only weirdo. Also called the shy introvert, these people require solitude even with their close friends. Furthermore, they are extremely uncomfortable in social situations but there’s a fine line between them and people who have social anxiety.
Filing a Restraining Order
Finally, the last type of introvert is a restrained introvert. Such people are reserved, thoughtful, and don’t like change. Furthermore, they will only go out if they have planned for it in advance. Moreover, they hate being rushed into situations, especially ones in which they might have to interact with others. Lastly, restrained introverts like sticking to a routine and keeping to themselves as much as possible.

Currently, I am a student of Fatima Jinnah Women University. With a burning passion for psychology, words, and dreams, I decided to abandon medical studies for humanities. These days, when I’m not listening to ballads, watching movies, or sitting down with a good novel, I am rigorously studying Hangul (Korean language) to satisfy my obsession for BTS and K dramas. I’m a thinking introvert and INFJ personality. Therefore, I like ‘me time’. My articles typically resonate with psychological well-being advice.
