Remembering Abdul Sattar Edhi On His Birthday
Pakistani nation today is remembering world-renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi on the occasion of his 93rd birthday.
He was born on this day in 1928, in Gujarat but then migrate to Karachi after partition.
In 1951, he established the Edhi Foundation, solely by private donations.
The foundation, which operates 24 hours a day, provides a variety of social services from homeless shelters to medical care all free of charge; and has helped thousands of people around the world in times of need.
Edhi created a charitable empire out of nothing. He masterminded Pakistan’s largest welfare organization almost single-handedly; entirely with private donations.
In 1965, Edhi married Bilquis, a nurse who worked at an Edhi Trust dispensary.
They had four children, two daughters, and two sons.
Bilquis is responsible for running the free maternity home at the foundation’s headquarters in Karachi. and organizes the adoption of abandoned babies including those who are otherwise at risk of being killed as a potential consequence of being born out of wedlock or due to rape.
Late Abdul Sattar Edhi also known as “Angel of Mercy” due to his selfless services for mankind across the country, moreover, he did always help people in need without discrimination of religion, sect, and creed.
Most notably, the foundation operates the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network in Pakistan.
Abdul Sattar Edhi breathed his last on July 8, 2016, due to kidney failure.
During the last days of his illness; he preferred to get treatment in Pakistan rather than abroad and earned further laurels from the general masses.
