Amazon Raises Wages, Cuts Health Care Costs Amid Worker Concerns

Amazon has announced plans to raise its average hourly pay to more than $23, with full-time employees set to see an average annual increase of $1,600.

The tech giant is also making health care more affordable, lowering the cost of its entry-level plan to $5 per week, with co-pays also set at $5 starting in 2026—a 34% drop in weekly contributions for employees.

The company employed over 1.5 million full- and part-time workers by the end of last year, in addition to hiring seasonal temporary staff and independent contractors, particularly during the busy holiday season.

Amazon has faced growing scrutiny over worker treatment. Last year, employees at seven U.S. facilities staged walkouts during the holiday rush, protesting what union officials described as the company’s failure to negotiate fair contracts.

In December, Amazon also agreed to implement safety measures across all U.S. facilities to resolve federal claims that it had not done enough to prevent back injuries and other ergonomic-related health issues among workers.
